Gabriele Lockstaedt was born in 1957 in Herford, Germany.
Gabriele Lockstaedt studied Fine Art in Munich from 1977-1982. Since 1984 she has had over 100 solo exhibitions in Germany, Europe and
the United States, many of which were held in art institutes and public venues. She’s been featured in over 30 print publications. Gabriele’s paintings are considered individual pieces of visual poetry expressed through the mixed mediums of oil, acrylic and chalk. Utilizing collage techniques, she carefully constructs depth-filled pieces from elements of text, heavy texture, varying brushstrokes and moments that blur the edges between hard and soft application. Her mixtures of raw pigment and liquid color lend a timeless, antique appearance that draws the viewer into a sort of romanticism and wonder oftentimes delivered by the sight of old frescoes. The organic processes of wiping, scratching, grinding and rebuilding add a soulful substance to her subjects of flowers, fruits architectural "fragments and other still life icons that are unique in their size ratio to the overall compositions. Many of her paintings include sketches of classical architectural elements, which not only structure and connect the composition but also express today’s yearning for the Mediterranean way of life and romantic connection with nature. The motifs are mostly flowers and fruits, in an over life size scale.
